Much touch

synaptics

Synaptics has recently shown off their ClearPad 3000 touchscreens, to improve on their commonly found ClearPad 2000 Series. But don't get it wrong, the 2000 Series isn't all that bad. It is found on many modern smartphones and offers decent multitouch capabilities, but it can be frustrating to use if the virtual brain of the screen is confused with your pokes.

But with the new 3000 Series, the screens can firstly: recognize the shape and size of the item that you're using to prod it with (most likely your finger, but that doesn't matter). Plus, utilizing a new processor allows the screen to be handled with up to 10 fingers. The entire screen is now tracked by each individual pixel instead of a portion of the screen, and new technology from the computer lets screens up to 8" be used without slurping up your battery's juice.

Unfortunately, the touchscreens' power will be left up to the software that is used with it, so we're hoping for some pretty nice software. The first wave of gizmos with these screens ought to be released sometime this fall, and we'll be able to see just how awesome using more than two fingers on a screen will be.
